29th Aug

After a look around Iron Knob, which is now a working mine again, we headed for Streaky Bay, travelling through Kimba which  is " Halfway Across Australia" , then Wudinna where there is this huge granite carving to Australian Farmers. Arriving in Streaky Bay we had a look around, it is a nice little seaside town, we then headed for Perlubie Beach for our free camp for the night. I thought I would have a nice sunset over the water, but the clouds got in the way.

28th Aug

We had some incidents today, which we could have done without. I closed my stove top & forgot to turn of my burner & it exploded, glass everywhere. Then Judy dropped her phone in the loo but after opening it up it dried out nicely. We left Yunta after cleaning up the mess, had morning tea at Peterborough and lunch at Port Augusta, after looking around we left for Iron Knob to stay the night.

27th Aug

I have service again, so will try to catch up. We spent hte night at White Cliffs & in mornig we had a drive around & called into some more Dugouts which were a bit better made than Jocks Place.
24th Aug Leaving White Cliffs we headed for Broken Hill, & the went out to Menindee Lakes where we spent a lovely evening beside Lake Pamamaroo, there are 3 lakes out there, not so long ago it was dry.

25th Aug  We went into Broken Hill & up to the Line of Lode Miners Memorial Lookout, very interesting, after that, I headed out to Penrose Park out near Silverton to settle for the night as having been there before I really had no interest to see more in Broken Hill.

26th Aug  I spent a lazy day while others went of sightseeing, in afternoon Sue & Judy & I went over to Silverton to have a look even though I had been there before.

Today we left Cobar & travelled to White Cliffs, it is a quaint place with underground houses, but not much opal minimg going on. We went to Jocks place, boy was that a mess, he lives there alone & is not a very good housekeeper, we then went to the Dugout Motel, which is very nice,it is interesting to see what they are like inside.

21st Aug

Did not do much today as I was filling in time until I met up with the FF. We all met about 4pm & headed out to the free camp spot at The Old Reservoir, it is lovely out here, but no toilets, but who needs them ha ha. We had a lovely campfire and were joined by a couple from Tasmania, it was a nice evening.

20th Aug

Yesterday I could not get on line. So here is what happened yesterday, I had an extra day to fill in as Judy had to get work done on her bus, so I travelled south through Yeoval, Cumnock and Molong then up tp Burrendong Dam for the night. Yeoval is the birth place of Banjo Patterson, also along the road to Molong ther were scupture of animals on bikes done by local people.

Today I travelled to Cobar, not a very interesting drive. Will meet the FF tomorrow, so that will be good.

18th Aug

Yesterday was a bit of a non event as I only travelled from Warrumbungles to Dubbo. Today I visited the Western Plains Zoo, it was quite interesting to see how the animals are kept, much better than the old style zoo's, but of course having been to Africa I have seen most of them in the wild. I am spending another night in Dubbo at a feebie called Terramungamine Reserve, it is nice & quiet by the river, & away from traffic noise. It has rained on & off all day, with a cold wind.

16th Aug

I didn't get to Mt Kaputar NP because you are not allowed to take Motorhomes or Caravans up the mountain, so instead I went to see the Australian Telescopes, the drove on to Coonabarabran and then on to the Warrumbungles

15th Aug

Well today I left Inveral and took the scenic drive round Copeton Dam to Bingarra, it was lovely as the Wattle is out and the banks a mass of yellow. After lunch I drove to Narrabri through the Mt kaputer NP, stopping to have a look at the Glacial Rocks in Rocky Creek, I didn't stop at Sawn Rocks as I have seen it before.

14th August

Last night we spent at Beardy Creek campsite outside Glen Innes, it was a very cold night and the day did not get any better with thunder and rain & hail. I had a look at the Standing Stones, very impressive, then I visited the museum which is very good, it is situated in the old hospital, and in the hospital section it certainly brought back memories of training days.

Left Ballina at around 2.30pm and met Louise in Lismore, then we travelled on to the Cambridge Plateau Campground, what a lovely view, so peaceful only us and the animals, a full moon too.

12th Aug 11

Well I am in Ballina at the moment sitting at the Horizens workshop waiting for the leak in the bathroom roof to be fixed, apparantly not a big problem. Louise and I spent yesterday having a leisurely drive down the coast, keeping off the main roads as far as possible.

Saturday 6 August 2011

Here we are, "The Fearsome Foursome+1" at our planning, Birthday & Anniversary weekend up at Burnett Heads. We all head off soon for our trip to Western Australia, I'll be detouring via Ballina then meeting the others at Cobar on 20th August
